High-response optical fiber temperature sensor

The high-response optical fiber temperature sensor (FOT-HERO) is a very compact and highly accurate sensor. It is completely unaffected by electric and magnetic fields (EMI - Electro Magnetic Interference). The sensing element is made of Si:H (silicon) and has a small size of 150×150μm, making it suitable for research and development of Electronic Explosive Devices (EED). The response time is less than 1ms, and it does not interfere with the EED circuit. The sensor can accurately measure the temperature of the bridge wire even when exposed to EMI. The temperature range of the sensor is 0 to 120°C. Since there is a proportional relationship between the current flowing through the bridge wire and the temperature, it is possible to study ignition conditions caused by interference such as EMI. The measurements are based on detecting changes in the refractive index of Si:H caused by temperature variations.

Additionally, there are options available for the probe's tip. The transmitter can continuously monitor the temperature of switchgear contacts, busbars, and other medium-voltage electrical equipment in real-time. One transmitter can connect 3 to 9 probes, enabling simultaneous measurement of temperatures at multiple points. It is also possible to connect multiple transmitters in series on a 35mm DIN rail.

In recent years, improvements in the quality of optical fibers and the production of various types of fibers have made it possible to develop sensors that were unimaginable a while ago. By deploying sensors in a 2-millimeter gap within devices that generate ultra-strong electromagnetic fields, we have designed, developed, and released various sensors tailored to different scenarios, such as sensors that monitor the state of the device and sensors that detect temperature at intervals of several centimeters in depth. We also contribute to reducing construction and sensor costs by proposing optical fiber-type sensors for cases where traditional thermocouples are inadequate or where excessive numbers lead to exorbitant costs. Additionally, we have developed a sensor cable that, despite its small diameter (5Φ or less), can withstand high pressure and is easy to handle, receiving positive feedback from contractors. Of course, we also offer options for high-temperature and ultra-low-temperature applications, so if you have any ideas about potential uses, please let us know, and we will provide suggestions as much as possible.
